Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Carlos Baleba from Brighton. The midfielder has signed a contract to 2031, with the option to extend by a year.

United are understood to have paid an initial £65m for the 22-year-old, who is the third midfielder to join this summer, after Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. It takes the club’s spend on the position to about £148m.

United had hoped to get the Cameroon international last summer but Brighton wanted about £115m, the amount they received when they sold Moisés Caicedo to Chelsea in 2023.

Baleba told United’s website: “It is an incredible feeling to join the club of my dreams. Playing at Old Trafford is always special but the opportunity to do so as a Manchester United player will be a real honour.”
